Those who say 'only a chicken'

Simply don't understand

The warmth and affection

That's given by a friend

Who fits in the palm of your hand.

They cannot conceive of the notion

Of a friend clothed in feathers, not fur

And just cannot see the bright ocean

That a sweet feathered friend can confer

Only a chicken, they tell me

But I alone know the word

"Chicken" means so much more

In my heart springs than can

E'er be encompassed by "bird"

Never forgotten, precious friend

So much more than 'just  a Chicken.'
